What is the Registrant Whois Type when registering a .CA domain?
CIRA, the central registry for .CA domains, requires all domain registrants to meet its Canadian Presence Requirements. As part of the registration process, you will be asked to complete your .CA registrant settings by selecting a Registrant Whois Type.
You're able to select one of the following Registrant Types within .ca setting page.
1. Individual Registrant Types
- Canadian Citizen
- Permanent Resident of Canada
- Aboriginal Peoples (individuals or groups) indigenous to Canada
- Legal Representative of a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
2. Non-Individual Registrant Types
- Corporation (Canada or Canadian province or territory)
- Government or government entity in Canada
- Canadian Educational institution
- Canadian Unincorporated Association
- Canadian Hospital
- Partnership Registered in Canada
- Domain contains Trade-mark registered in Canada (by a non-Canadian owner)
- Canadian Trade union
- Canadian Political party
- Canadian Library, Archive or Museum
- Trust established in Canada
- Indian Band recognized by the Indian act of Canada
- Official mark registered in Canada

Please note: If your selected Whois Type is "Corporation (Canada or Canadian province or territory)," the contact record name must reflect the full legal name of the corporation and include the jurisdiction of incorporation (e.g., Canada, Ontario, NWT), unless the jurisdiction is clearly identifiable from the corporation's name itself.
For detailed information on the registrant types listed above, please see CIRA's Canadian Presence Requirements for Registrants.
