Webserver downtime

Hi,

I've noticed a few times recently that webhosting has been down for a while. This also affects login to site to update.

I assume you're aware of the problem. Any explanations?

Also, this didn't seem to happen when I first signed up - and we did get an e-mail if ever the server was down, and an apology, which was good. Now - no email; not even a "Service Status" link on the homepage where we can check what's going on.

Has been down this time for 11 hours, I'm getting a bit worried, I have an art exhibition opening in a day and a half after 9 months of planning, and are meant to be sending out a final email reminder, plus my ads with web and email are being wasted. I am sure the problem is being looked into, I just hope this will only be a one-time hiccup, I like using dynadot and it has been great up till now. Cheers Simon, www.simoncollinsart.com

This downtime is not good.

Downtime plus no info equals unhappy customers.

Seems the web server itself can be pinged, so it does seem like some HW failure in the server itself, or some internal config issue.

Which raises the moot point - what about a backup server??

The webhosting server should be back up at this moment.  We are currently looking into why it went down and are taking all measures possible to avoid any unnecessary downtime.  Rest assured that we do have back-up hardware in place, and we will be discussing the option of replacing the current server with the backup if problems continue to arise.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Glad things are up to snuff again. Hope we don't have to go through this forum approach again anytime soon.

I'm taking my time building an additional web site here and hope this was just an unusual glitch.

Yes, web hosting is down yet again.

If it's a problem with the server, either hardware or software, then this is not good at all; it's not good PR for Dynadot, since such problems are fairly easy to fix - buy new hardware; have back-ups in place and switch to them; switch to a reliable server OS such as *nix.

I've had a server (IBM) running Debian which has been up for over two years, and has only needed rebooting twice, when the kernel was updated to fix a security problem. Other than that - which lasted all of a few minutes - there was no downtime at all.

Also, and yet again, we've got no info from Dynadot about what's going on or when it's likely to be fixed.

It went briefly back up and then down again. I'm working a big marketing drive at the moment and really need to be able to rely on my email and website. I've had no complaints before but it seems to be going up and down quite a bit and for quite long times. I came to Dynadot because my old server was unreliable..

Is it a failover server issue? software related? perhaps changing servers to back up ones until your standard farm is completely fixed? I don't know, just thoughts. I think some communication and reassurance would go a long way right now...

We're really sorry for the poor uptime these past few weeks.  As mentioned in our "Server Replacement" email, we will be performing a hardware upgrade today to prevent any unnecessary downtime in the future.  Your websites should be up at the moment (as of around 9:45am PST), but may be down for several hours later today when we are upgrading our web hosting servers.  We suspect that the motherboard or the memory of our web hosting server may be bad, so we will be troubleshooting the issue today.  Hopefully, there will be no more problems once we have fixed this.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by our downtime.  We are working hard to resolve this problem to the best of our ability.

I hope the upgrade goes smoothly for you (and us! ;)) Thanks for keeping us in the loop, it really helps to know what's going on.
