Beware of “Dynadot” Phone Scams and Future Suspicious Activities
Recently, one of our customers contacted our customer service team reporting a suspicious phone call. The scammer claimed to represent Dynadot and attempted to collect personal information. Unfortunately this isn’t news to us, we are aware of the seriousness of this issue and wanted to address how to protect yourself and your domain(s) in this article.
Over the years, scammers have been reaching out to our customers to collect personal information using many different approaches; phone, email, written mail, etc. However, Dynadot does NOT make outgoing calls to our customers for personal information, domain names, or other products they own. We also do not contact customers for personal information if they have “won a prize” or “free giveaway items”. Some other scams that we’ve seen in the past also include topics like domain renewals and transfers (which you can do internally in your Dynadot portal). You can check out our previous scam blogs here and here for more information.
Many of these perpetrators use the public Whois information to target customers who do not have privacy settings enabled. This is not only true for Dynadot but all registrars’ customers. Although scammers will always be around, there are ways you can protect yourself and stay aware of these occurrences.
What should you do when you get a scam call?
-
Never reveal personal information
-
Don’t feel pressured to speak to them
-
End the call
-
Don’t call back
There is always an option of ignoring and blocking spam calls with newer smartphones today, and you can also register on the “national do not call list”. We highly recommend adding Google Authenticator and using our domain privacy service for extra security at Dynadot.
