  • How does proxy bidding work?

We use proxy bidding for our Expired Domain Auctions, User Auctions and Backorders (if they go to auction). Here is how it works:Say for example, a domain is in auction with a starting bid price of $12.99.If bidder A places a bid of $20.00 for the domain, our system will start his bid at $12.99 and bid up to $20.00 automatically on his behalf. When bidder B visits the auction, he sees the current bid price as $12.99. If bidder B decides to place a bid for $14.00, he will be outbid immediately by bidder A, and the new minimum bid will be $15.00. In order to outbid the first bidder, he would need to bid at least $20.01. If bidder B places a bid for $20.00, which matches bidder A's maximum bid amount, then bidder A would still be the high bidder, but the new minimum bid would be $21.00. If an auction price reaches $50, proxy bids will be tiered based on the current high bid.How do I place a bid on an Expired Domain Auction? How do I place a bid in the 3-5 day auction that sometimes follows a successful backorder request?

  • How do I place a backorder request for a pending delete domain?

Dynadot has a domain backorder service available in our marketplace. You can place a backorder on a pending delete domain and we will try to catch it for you as it "drops" or is re-released to the public for registration. To place a backorder request, you must first meet the following requirements: You must have $5 in account balance or have successfully completed an order of $5+ in the last 365 days. If you are new to Dynadot or do not have a recent order history, the easiest way to fulfill this requirement is by creating a prepay order. You cannot be banned from our auctions. You must set your marketplace default payment settings in your account. You are now ready to place a backorder request. Here is how it works: If there is only one backorder placed, an order will be created and we will do our very best to catch the domain for you. Please understand there is no guarantee we will be successful. These domains are being dropped by the central registry and there may be competition from other domain registrars. If there are multiple backorders for the same domain, a backorder auction will be held. The starting bid will be the backorder price and will be placed for the customer who first placed the backorder. Learn more about our backorders or how to place a bid in our backorder auctions.

  • What is a backorder (drop catch)?

After a domain expires and passes its renewal grace period and redemption period, the domain is "dropped" or re-released to the public for registration. Before it's re-released, you can use a drop catch or backorder service to place a request to register the dropping domain. Then, the backorder service will attempt to register the domain for you as soon as it drops. Most domains are dropped from the central registry 75 days after their expiration date.Dynadot BackordersIf a domain receives one or more backorder requests, our drops system will try to catch it for you. If we're successful and you were the only backorder request, an order will be created for you and the domain will be placed into your account after the order is completed. If there are multiple backorder requests, there will be a backorder auction for the domain. To place a domain backorder request with us, the following is required: You must have recent order history with Dynadot. This means either having a balance of, or making a payment, that meets the minimum amounts listed below. If you're new to Dynadot, the easiest way to fulfill this requirement is by creating a prepay order. You must not be banned from our auctions. You will also need to set up your marketplace default payment settings in your account. Minimum payment/balance amount is $5 USD, or its equivalent. While conversion rates do fluctuate, that will be around 4.25 Euros, 35 RMB, 6.25 CAD, 100 MXN, or 3.75 GBP. These currencies cannot be combined.Visit our Supported Backorder TLDs help page to see our up-to-date list of TLDs that have drop catch support.

  • What is an Expired Domain Auction?

When a domain is not renewed by the registrant, it's auctioned off. The highest bidder for the domain may then receive the domain in their Dynadot account.Auctions last for 7-11 days, and you can bid anytime during that period. If a bid is received in the last 5 minutes of an auction, the end time will be extended by 5 minutes. There is no limit to the number of times an auction may be extended before the auction's final "end time" is set.You may also place a proxy bid for higher than the current minimum bid. If someone else places a bid, the system will automatically bid for you until your max proxy bid amount is reached. If you're the highest bidder when the auction ends, you have 2 days to pay for the auction. Once you pay, the domain is moved into your Dynadot account in about 4 days.To bid on an auction, first create a Dynadot account if you haven't already. We require at least $5 account spending before you can participate in our expired domain auctions. You can prepay $5 into your account and use the account credit to pay for your first won auction or other purchase with us.

  • What is the "Domain Sale" process for your Marketplace?

Our Marketplace has many domains listed for sale. Our "Domain Sale" process is structured to help potential buyers purchase the domain they want immediately without the hassle of contacting the seller directly. This benefits the seller too since it helps them sell more domains with less work. Here's how it works: A seller lists a domain for sale at a specific price in our Marketplace. An interested buyer sees this domain for sale and decides to buy it. He/she adds the domain to their shopping cart, checks out, and submits payment. If the domain is registered with another registrar, the domain transfer fee will be displayed on the domain listing page and added to the final price. Our system automatically moves the domain to the buyer's Dynadot account so they can use the domain immediately. The domain will stay on a "Buy Lock" status for 30 days. This prevents the buyer from moving the domain to another Dynadot account or transferring the domain to another domain registrar. The sale proceeds are credited to the seller's Dynadot account (minus a 10% Marketplace commission fee) after the processing period ends. NOTE: Dynadot marketplace commission fee is 10% of the sold price. There is no listing fee at this time. The processing period will take 5-7 days. The sale proceeds are credited as Dynadot account credit, but can be paid out on request. What other ways can you earn on Dynadot?Participate in our Refer-a-Friend program.
