When I search for a certain domain name on dynadot it tells me in red letters that the domain is registered.
When I go to the auction page of that same domain name the auction is still in progress and finishes in a few days.
Which one should I believe?

Hi, thanks for your enquiry. The domains that are shown in red are definitely already registered, but can be placed on marketplace auctions and still be purchased. That’s why you can also find them there. They were registered beforehand but through auctions, what changes is the ownership of those domains.
