What is a Restricted Lock on my domain?
Restricted Lock is a security status applied to a domain name that restricts most domain management actions to help prevent unauthorized changes.
When a domain is under Restricted Lock, customers cannot make most modifications to the domain. This restriction applies to protect the domain from unauthorized ownership or configuration changes.
The following actions are restricted:
- Domain transfer
- Domain push (moving the domain to another Dynadot account)
- Domain contact or ownership information changes
- Domain deletion
- Other domain management changes
The following actions are still allowed:
- Domain renewal
- Domain privacy updates
- DNS settings and Name Server updates
You can update your domain's DNS or Name Servers while the domain is under Restricted Lock to continue managing your website or DNS configuration.
Why is my domain under Restricted Lock?
Restricted Lock may be applied when a domain requires additional protection, such as during a dispute process or other security review.
This status helps prevent unauthorized ownership or account changes while allowing essential domain management functions.
How can I check if my domain has Restricted Lock?
You can check your domain's lock status from your Dynadot account:
- Sign in to your Dynadot account.
- Go to My Domains - Manage Domains.
- Find your domain and check the lock status.
You can also use the Filter - Lock Status - Restricted Lock option to view domains with this status.
