What is KYC, and do I need to complete KYC verification?

Updated: 2026/08/31Viewed times: 351

Some domain extensions require registrars to verify information about the person or organization registering or managing a domain name. This process is known as Know Your Customer (KYC) verification.

KYC helps us confirm that the contact information associated with a domain is accurate and belongs to a real person or organization. These requirements are set by certain central registries and help maintain the security and reliability of the domain name system.

You may be asked to complete KYC verification when you want to register, transfer, push, or perform another action involving a domain that has KYC requirements.

Is KYC required for every domain?

No. KYC requirements depend on the domain extension and the requirements set by its registry.

Our KYC system will automatically determine whether the Contact Record being used for a particular domain or operation needs to be verified. Initially, KYC verification will apply to .DE and .NO domains, with additional domain extensions potentially requiring KYC verification in the future.

What happens if I don't complete KYC?

If a domain operation requires a verified Contact Record, the operation cannot be completed until the Contact Record has passed KYC verification.

You can start the verification process from in your Dynadot account by navigating to the "TLD Settings" page in your Dynadot account, followed by the "Contact KYC" page.

Do I need to complete KYC every time?

No. Once a Contact Record has been successfully verified, the verification can be used for domain operations that require that Contact Record to be verified.

However, if KYC-related information on the verified Contact Record is changed, the Contact Record's verification status may be reset and you will need to complete verification again.
