Small ways to celebrate World Health Day

Today is World Health Day, a day to celebrate global health awareness. World Health Day was created by The World Health Organization (WHO) in the 1950s to spread awareness on the issues of global health. Each year for World Health Day WHO focuses on a theme. This year it is Universal Health care. Here are some of the themes from previous years

  • 2018 – Universal health coverage.

  • 2017 – Depression.

  • 2016 – Diabetes.

  • 2015 – Food safety.

  • 2014 – Vector-borne diseases.

  • 2013 – Focus on high blood pressure.

  • 2012 – Active aging: Good health adds life to years.

  • 2011 - Antibiotic resistance: No action today, no cure tomorrow.

The past themes focus on all aspects of health, whether it be physical or mental. It's always important to prioritize your health and make sure you are living a good and healthy life. In honor of World Health Day here are some ways you can celebrate today!


Make sure that you're taking care of yourself by seeing a doctor at least once a year! Not just physical appointments but this also includes teeth check-ups and eye appointments. Even though you feel like you're in great shape it's always safe to make sure everything is working right.


It is recommended to be active for at least 30 minutes a day. For someone like me who is not so active, I try to find small ways to incorporate physical activity into my daily routine. It can be taking a walk or walking your pet, riding a bicycle, or swimming! These things will get your heart pumping and be good or your physical and mental health.


The great thing about the internet is that you can find thousands of charities or organizations all over the world. If you feel like you can't physically celebrate world health day or you want to take action but have a busy schedule, it's okay! You can always donate to one of these amazing organizations.


Mental health is just as important as physical health! It's important always to remember this and always to treat ourselves to relaxation. Whether it's reading a book or listening to music. Find ways in your day to incorporate stress-relief or meditation. Your mental health should always be a priority.

There are many ways to incorporate health awareness in your life, not just on World Health Day. With so many resources online you can now educate yourself on organizations and health issues happening all over the world. You can even start a blog about health! There are many ways to get up and make a difference in this world. Do your part and remember to stay healthy!
