Security Key Account Authentication Update

Dynadot Update - Security Key Authentication

We understand the importance of account security. Ensuring your accounts have the proper systems in place to securely utilize our tools and services is a high priority for us, which is why we continue to add new updates to further protect your accounts.

To expand on our existing account security features, we’ve implemented another method of login verification through the addition of security key authentication. If you’re unfamiliar, a security key is a physical device that can be used as a form of two factor authentication (or referred to as 2fa). An example of a popular security key device is a YubiKey security key. This optional form of authentication provides a strong level of protection due to a physical device being used/required in order to log in.

How Security Keys Work

Security keys are physical devices that can be connected with accounts on a specified platform (in this case, your Dynadot account) to verify logins. Typically the process is to connect your security key to your device (via plugging it into a USB slot or connecting it with your mobile device) and proceed through the setup process provided by the product manual. Once the security key has been activated/the connection between the key and computer/phone has been established, you can turn on security key authentication in your Dynadot account to enable it.

How to Connect Your Security Key with Your Dynadot Account

Once you’re logged into your Dynadot account and in your account control panel, click ‘My Info’ -> ‘Security’ on the left sidebar.

Here you will find the three account security options that you can attach to your account. To add a security key, click on ‘Security Key’ and a prompt will help you proceed through the setup process. If you’re on a desktop computer, you’ll need to plug the security key into your computer before proceeding.

If you’re on a mobile device, your security key will need to be connected to your mobile device (to do this, check instructions provided by the product manufacturer). From there, clicking on ‘Security Key’ on the ‘My Info’ -> ‘Security’ page will prompt you to verify the key by touching the top of the key.

With more account security options available, you have the opportunity to choose the two factor authentication method that best fits the devices you have available. As we continue to expand our services, we’ll continue to be proactive in protecting and securing your Dynadot accounts through security enhancements such as security key integration so you can continue to register domains and manage your portfolio without worry.

If you have any questions about our security key authentication, please feel free to reach out to our customer support team.
