The Domain Transfer Process: Transferring Your Domain Away

Before You Start

While we will be sad to see you go, we understand that sometimes our customers choose to transfer their domains to another registrar. Here at Dynadot, even if you are leaving us, we still want to make the process as smooth as possible for you.

Transferring a domain is a normal part of domain management, whether you’re consolidating your portfolio, looking for better pricing, or moving to a registrar with features that better fit your needs.

Before transferring a domain away from Dynadot, confirm that it has been registered for more than 60 days and has not been transferred within the last 60 days. The domain should also be unlocked, active, and free from any transfer restrictions.

It is best to begin the process at least two weeks before the domain expires. Transferring close to the expiration date may increase the risk of delays or require you to renew the domain first.

 

Unlock Your Domain and Get the Authorization Code

Sign in to your Dynadot account and go to My Domains > Manage Domains. Select the domain you want to transfer, unlock it, and locate the authorization code, which may also be called an EPP code or transfer code.

Keep this code secure, as you will need to provide it to your new registrar. For detailed instructions, see Dynadot’s How do I transfer my domain away from Dynadot? help file.

 

Start the Transfer

Once you have the authorization code, submit a transfer request through your new registrar. You may receive confirmation emails from Dynadot or the receiving registrar, so make sure the domain contact email address is current and accessible.

Domain transfers commonly take several days to complete. Keep the domain unlocked until the transfer is finished and follow any confirmation instructions promptly.
