What is a backorder domain?
Domain Backorder FAQs
In short, what is a domain backorder?
Once a domain has completed the expiration process and passes the redemption period, the domain is "dropped", meaning it is re-released back to the public for new registrants. Before it is returned to the market, users can place a 'domain backorder' and our drops system will try to 'catch' or retrieve that domain the moment it is released. Both 'domain backorder' and 'domain drop-catch' are used interchangeably in the domain industry. Visit our backorder help page for more information.
How does the domain backorder page work?
The page includes a list of soon-to-fully-expire domains that you can request, and our system will attempt to catch the domain for you. Every domain listed can have a backorder requested and you will not be charged for making a request. If you are the only user who placed a request and the "Time Left" for the domain expires, an order will be created, and the domain will be placed under your account.
What happens when multiple people place a backorder?
If multiple users request a domain backorder, it will enter a backorder auction, where the domain will be available for bidding by all Dynadot users who want to participate. The backorder auction functions the same way as our regular domain auctions. Visit our help article to learn more about backorder auctions.
Will my backordered domain have a new creation date?
Yes, domains that are successfully backordered will have a brand-new creation date. This is because they are deleted from the registry and then newly registered when they go through the backorder process.
What is "EstiBot"? How is the price calculated?
The "EstiBot" column is an estimated worth of the domain in that row. The EstiBot is an automated algorithm-based appraisal system used across the domain industry to determine a domain's approximate value. This algorithm is constantly being improved and developed to assist domain investors in making informed investment decisions.
