Happy 40th birthday to the Rubik's Cube! Solving a Rubik's Cube may seem impossible, but we all know that it can be done. The same can be said for finding the right domain name. Sometimes it seems impossible, but all you really need is the right combination of words to find a winning combination for your domain! So how do you find this winning combination? Well, here are a few tips to help you:

 

 

Memorable

If people can't remember your domain name, it'll be very difficult for them to find you online. Making sure your domain name is memorable can help you brand yourself online, whether you're starting a business, a blog, or any other type of website. Making sure your domain name is easy to remember is the key in establishing your website and everything else on this list relates back to this idea.

 

 

 

 

Easy to Spell

If you spend any amount of time on social media, you have probably realized that many people's spelling skills leave something to be desired. If your domain is too hard to spell, people may have trouble finding you online and you could be losing traffic to the 'other versions' of your domain name. If you do want to go with a unique spelling, try to register as many possible spellings of your domain as you can to catch that traffic and redirect it to your actual website. For example, we also own dinadot.com, dynodot.com, etc.

 

 

 

 

Keep it Short

Obviously it's going to be difficult to keep your domain super short. That being said, you don't need to use 20 words or 200 letters to find a domain name that's available. The more words and letters you use, the more difficult it is for people to remember your domain and especially remember how to spell it! Plus, keeping it shorter allows for more characters in the URL bar for your website's many pages.

 

 

 

 

Be Careful About Using Hyphens and Numbers

It may be tempting to use a hyphen when YourIdea.com is taken, but Your-Idea.com is available; however, you may very likely end up losing traffic to YourIdea.com. If we go back to the idea of being memorable, hyphens don't really fall into that category. They're easy to forget and you'll find yourself having to remind people your domain name is Your hyphen Idea dot com. Numbers have a similar problem, except people will be questioning whether your domain name is YourIdea1.com or YourIdeaOne.com. If you really do want to use a number, check if both domains are available. If they are you can always register both and just forward one to the other, so you don't lose any traffic.

 

 

 

 

Brainstorm Some Good Keywords

Although using perfect match keywords may not help you with SEO as much, it can help you find and register the right domain name. You may find that YourName.com is taken, but YourNameKeyword.com or even YourNameLocation.com is available. Adding on that extra keyword can help you find a domain name that will work for you and it can also help define what you do or where you're located. For example, I helped my dad register a domain name for his business. He happens to have a famous name, so I knew HisName.com was out of the question. By adding the word law, we were able to find a great domain name that made sense for both him and his partner.
