Share Your Story With the Launch of .BLOG!

A man sitting with his laptop editing a blog post

There is no denying that over the past decade, the Internet has evolved from a medium that you passively view to one that you actively live. As more people came online in the early 2000's and the Internet became more accessible there was a noted shift in the delivery of online content.
There is perhaps no finer example of this shift than the proliferation of blogs. Blogging has put content creation entirely at the whim of the writer. Beholden to nobody, bloggers are able to voice their opinion, share their stories and connect to others online. Now with the launch of .BLOG, anyone can create a hub to collect all of their musings and promote their blog all from the domain name. That's why in celebration of the launch of .BLOG, we've written about three types of blogs that you can host on the new TLD.

The Importance of a Professional Email Part 1: The Individual

Importance of Professional Email - Man Putting on Tie

Think back - what was your very first email address? For me, it was an AOL address that I made up in middle school. This was back when you were greeted with "You've Got Mail" after making it through the dial up tones and successfully logging on to the Internet though AOL. Well, since then we've come a long way and so have I. Unsurprisingly, my first email was not the most professional email and I no longer use it. Instead, I now use a combo of my first and last name on Gmail. Luckily for me, my name is not very common. But what do you do when you need a professional email and your desired name is already taken?

The Value of New TLDs

Piggybank - The Value of New TLDs

Over the last three years, almost 1200 new domain extensions have launched. Together, those domain extensions have yielded over 25 million domain registrations. It's an exciting time for the domain industry - and the Internet. After the introduction of the legacy top-level domains (TLDs) in 1985, there have only been a few other TLD launches. These launches gave us .INFO, .BIZ, and .TEL, among others (not including country code domains). Though no TLD - legacy, country, or new - has been able to rival the popular .COM, that doesn't mean that they don't have value.

3 Questions to Ask Yourself When Rebranding Your Domain Name

3 Questions to Ask Yourself When Rebranding Your Domain Name

Recently, Tesla Motors acquired the domain name Tesla.com after years of attempting to wring it from the previous registrant, who owned the domain for 24 years. While a high profile news piece, most businesses do not have the clout or financial acumen of an Elon Musk, so for some businesses the wait for the ideal domain name could be a long one (even the modern day Iron Man, Musk had to wait over a decade for tesla.com). That's why we wrote three domain name branding questions to remember for businesses when that perfect domain name finally becomes available.

The Only Domain Suitable for Creativity and Innovation

The Domain for Innovation

Who here doesn’t love to watch the HBO series "Silicon Valley"? I bet that if you are reading this blog, you have seen every episode of this hit comedy series. If you want to be just like the billion dollar company "Hooli" then the first step is to register a .XYZ domain. As of June 2016, .XYZ has become the 4th most registered TLD after .com, .net, and .org. It's time to jump onto the .XYZ bandwagon!

Early Bird Gets the Domain

Importance of Registering Your Domain Early

The Nintendo Switch, Nintendo's next generation video game console, was announced on October 20th. Judging by the 3 minute video that Nintendo posted about this new console, it looks like this device is very convenient no matter where you want to play it. This is definitely one of the most innovative consoles I have seen to date. When you release a new product, it is always a smart idea to register a domain for that product.

Luckily, Nintendo did secure nintendoswitch.com, but they obviously didn't get all of the potential "switch" domains since the day of the announcement there were 175 "switch" domains registered by others.

Google Enters Registry Platform Space With Nomulus

Google Announces New Registry Platform - Nomulus

Last week on its open source blog, Google announced the launch of Nomulus, an open source registry platform. Google already operates as a registrar and as a registry, so developing a back end system should not come as a total surprise (talk about vertical integration!). The new platform will supply Google’s top-level-domains (TLDs) and could power the back end for TLDs belonging to other registry operators
