.ME is for everyone! Whether you want to start a blog, personal page or establish a startup business, you can explore your freedom with a short, simple and memorable .ME.

Who knew such a short TLD could hold such a large sea of opportunities?

.ME may be open to everyone, but it's also the designated country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the beautiful country of Montenegro. Top-level domains are reserved for every country dependent territory or sovereign state identified with a unique country code, each allocated by Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA).

Located in South-eastern Europe, Montenegro is not only a beautiful place to spend your next vacation, but it is also rooted with a lot of ancient history from the Medieval period, to present day. From 1992 up until 2003 Montenegro was a part of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia; after its collapse, Serbia and Montenegro agreed to maintain the Yugoslavia state. Starting in 2003, the two republics were established as the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro.

In 2006, Montenegro gained its independence from the State Union which joined Serbia and Montenegro as Yugoslavia's two remaining republics. As a division of Yugoslavia, Montenegro had been using the second-level domain .CG.YU from .YU. Following its independence, the country was assigned .ME! After going from .YU to .ME, Montenegro realize what a great new ccTLD they had on their hands. Luckily, when it comes to ccTLDs, it's up to the country to decide how they want to restrict it and even more luckily for us, Montenegro decided to open .ME up to the world!

Montenegro decided to not just open .ME up to the world, but also to cleverly market its many uses. Today, .ME is considered a gccTLD, which means that Google and other search engines don't see it differently than a .COM or .NET domain. Its use is wide – from personal websites to blogs to startups, who use the word “me” to their advantage.

After ten successful years, .ME has gained over one million registrations, which is more than the country's current population of over 600,000 citizens. In fact, .ME actually accounts for just over 2% of the country's total exports! Just recently, TechCrunch reviewed .ME's progress since its "10 year overnight success" to see who were the biggest buyers of the .ME domain. The United States took the lead with over 35% of .ME's registrations!

So what are you waiting for? Join in on the liberation of registering a .ME, currently on sale for only $8.99!
