The BlogProcess Story: How Dynadot Customer Hamza Mikou Got Started Blogging

Hamza Mikou is a Dynadot customer and blogger who has been making money from the Internet for the last 12 years. Right now, he runs BlogProcess, which he considers his way to give back and help individuals and businesses build and maintain their own blogs. On BlogProcess, he features articles about blogging, online marketing, search engine optimization, hosting and domains, and more.

Since BlogProcess has become known as a resource in the domain industry, I decided to talk to Hamza about how he got started.

Why did you decide to start your own blog?

Well, I had many blogs in the past and I used to also write in forums and for other people's blogs. At the same time I was helping some friends maintain their blogs, and I became curious as to whether I could help more people, especially those who don't have friends to give a hand. At the time, I didn't do anything about it, but when I moved to a new town I started thinking maybe I should start a new blog. After a friend asked me to write a tutorial about how to install a WordPress blog, it really kicked the idea into overdrive. The feedback was encouraging and now I couldn't stop if I wanted to.

Do you have any advice for people just starting out with blogging?

Yes! A lot of information about blogging is now available on the Internet and each thing you read is supposedly written by "the ultimate expert." My advice is to read them all, yes all of them, and then make your own strategy and your own personal editorial line. Don’t forget to give your blog your personal touch because people are often visiting blogs because of the writer's writing style and not just because of the information inside. Remember, Wikipedia has all the information someone needs, but it’s the style that can make the difference and set you and your blog apart. Making money through blogging is not very easy, but you need to be patient. You can’t start making money from the first day or even the first month. It needs effort and hard work (hard work always pays off). Concentrate on your blog and not the money. Concentrate on your readers and not the gain, and don’t forget that nowadays it’s easier!

You say you've been making money off of the Internet for years. How have you been doing this?

When I started BlogProcess 5 years ago under a different name, money was not the goal. I just wanted to make sure people loved my blog and they talked about it everywhere in the Internet. If someone on a forum somewhere links to my blog or post, I am proud of it. I'm always excited to think that I wrote something that someone else felt was worthy of giving me feedback about. This is called interaction and advertisers love interaction and backlinks. If you give that to them, they will ask you to publish their media.

How important has having your own website been for you?

There are a lot of people out there who blog, or podcast, or host forums. If they do that, they do it for a reason. Mine is to be heard! Having a TV channel or a newspaper is hard to do and expensive, but a website is the easiest way to share with people around the world what you want to.
