Subject: blogger custom domain problem Date Posted: Oct 22, 2007 12:14pm

i had acquired a new domain here so that i can use it for my blogger account, but so far instead of seeing my site using the domain i had bought, the only thing that i see was page cannot be displayed.

I had tried to put the IP address 127.0.0.1 in the dynadot dns, and www as the subdomain, while ghs.google.com as the target host, as suggested in the  previous topics. However, instead of actually finding my site  to be loaded, nothing is being loaded.

Can somebody help me out on how am I going to use my domain using the cname provided by google? And another thing, how long does it really take for the new site to work properly?

First of all, it looks like when we try to visit http://www.yourdomain.com, the URL is forwarding to http://yourdomain.com.  This is an error because http://yourdomain.com is pointing to 127.0.0.1, the IP address of your own computer.  If http://www.yourdomain.com resolves to your CNAME record instead, there should be no problems.

Secondly, have you updated your Blogger account so that Blogger is aware that your domain is using a CNAME record to reach your blog?  If this is not set up, Blogger may be denying all web requests from your domain.

As for how long it takes for a new website to work properly, it really depends on how long it takes for the new name server settings to propagate and how long it takes for the "web host" to configure their servers to accept web requests for your domain.

I've tried to update my blogger account so as it doesn't redirect to http://mydomain.com.

However I'm still troubled, up to now. Why can't I use the domain without a www attached to it? I can only access the site if I typed http://www.mydomain.com, but removing www it says page cannot be dsplayed. What should I do so that I can access the site using both http://mydomain.com or http://www.mydomain.com?

The "www" part counts as a subdomain.  You can access your blog because www.yourdomain.com has a CNAME record that is directed towards your blog.  However, yourdomain.com points to 127.0.0.1, the IP address of your own computer.  Since your computer is not the web server for your domain, you get a "Page Not Found" error.

Most of the time the "http://www.yourdomain.com" and the "http://yourdomain.com" URLs point to the same location, but this is not the case in this situation.  The two URLs are pointing at different locations which is why visiting either one yields a different website.

Right now, our DNS setting does not allow for the "yourdomain.com" URL to be set to a CNAME record.  So, you will not be able to set "http://yourdomain.com" to the same CNAME record for the "http://www.yourdomain.com" at this time.  We would like to add this feature, however, I do not know when it will be implemented.  That is why we currently suggest setting the IP address to 127.0.0.1 as a temporary solution.

It doesn't appear that dynadot will work like this, but a domain I have with another registrar on a blogger account is setup in the following way.

the root "mydomain.com" simply forwards to "www.mydomain.com" which has the cname set to ghs.google.com

If dynadot would allow for forwarding under the dyndadot dns section this would be easy enough to implement.

i aGREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

there was one time that there was a delay or something that at first i set the cname to ghs.google.com with subdomain www

and then i edited my domain (mydomain.com) to forward to www.mydomain.com.

it worked just fine but after about 5-10 mins, the www.mydomain.com suddenly forwarded to dynadot.com

y cant they just enable both forwarding and advanced dns settings. so that mydomain.com forwards to www.mydomain.com

and www.mydomain.com redirects to your cname blah blah.

hope the dynadot will do something about thiss..... T_T

I did it.

you have to set the DNS settings like the staff has said.

the ip can be any one.

follow the instructios as blogger said and create the C NAME.

the go to your blogger account and  in the section wher you set the domain  write the domain as www.yourdomain.com

and activate the  box to redirect yourdomain.com to www.yourdomain.com

this is working for me.

I hope this way will keep working.

Yesterday(02/03), i had made exactly as mentioned in the Forum:

But even still not working with me, just the domain "www... does!

When we will be able to set "http://yourdomain.com" to the same CNAME record for the "http://www.yourdomain.com"??

It is on our feature request list, but I do not know when it will be implemented.  In the meantime, have you tried finding out the IP address for ghs.google.com?  You could try setting your domain to that IP address to see if the http://yourdomain.com URL works.
