1. For my UK domain, what does the status "Registration request being processed" mean?

All new UK domains will have the status "Registration request being processed". After the first month, the status will change to "Registered until expiry date". There is no problem with your domain.

From Nominet's "Automaton Field definitions" page:

"Registration request being processed" - "A registration request for the domain name has been received and the domain name has been created, but the invoice has not yet paid. There is a delay between the receipt of the request and the production of the invoice, so this is quite normal to see."

2. Why do I have to enter a "Registrant" for UK domains?

The UK registry (www.nominet.org.uk) requires that a registrant is set when a domain is registered. This registrant cannot be changed later through the Dynadot control panel.

Instead, you have to contact Nominet directly to change the registrant. Most changes are charged a 10 pound processing fee. For more information, please visit the "Transfer" page on Nominet.

3. Why do I have to enter a "Registrant Type" for UK domains?

The UK registry (www.nominet.org.uk) requests a registrant type, so they know what type of organization the domain is registered for. For more information, please visit the "Registrant type" page at Nominet.

4. How do I transfer my UK domain to Dynadot?

Step 1 - Please ask your current registrar (tag holder) to change the tag (also known as the IPS Tag) for your domain to "DYNADOT". You do not need to place an order on the transfer page.

Step 2 - Send us an email telling us your username, and the domain you just re-tagged.

Step 3 - We will add the domain to your account, once Nominet notifies us the domain has been re-tagged.

Dynadot does not charge a fee for this service. Please be aware that your domain will not be renewed for 1 year, unlike domain transfers for COM/NET and most other domain types.

If your current registrar will not or can not change your tag for you, then you can ask Nominet to do it for you for a fee.

5. How do I transfer my UK domain away from Dynadot to another registrar?

To transfer your .UK domain away from Dynadot, please follow these steps:

  1. Log into your Dynadot account.
  2. Click on the "Domains" tab at the top of the page.
  3. Click on the link for your actual domain name.
  4. Scroll down to the "Transfer Lock" box. Verify your identity by entering in your birthday and/or SMS code. If you have activated your SMS settings, you will need to send yourself a SMS code and enter it in before the code expires.
  5. Scroll back down to the "Transfer Lock" box, select "No", and then click the "Submit" button.
  6. Scroll back down to the "Transfer Lock" box. You should now be able to input the TAG for your new Registrar.

There is no fee for this service.

6. What is the "Company Number" for UK domains?

The company number field is required if you choose certain registrant types for a UK domain.

LTD - UK Limited Company
PLC - UK Public Limited Company
LLP - UK Limited Liability Partnership
IP - UK Industrial/Provident Registered Company

Please enter the Companies House Registration Number. It is 8 characters long, and can be letters and digits.

RCHAR - UK Registered Charity

Please enter the Registered Charity Number. It is either a 6 or 7 digit number.

SCH - UK School

Please enter the DfES UK School Number.
