How Do I Order a Private Domain?

If you have not registered a domain yet, you can start by searching for a domain in the search box above. You can add domain privacy when registering a domain. You will see a checkbox on the domain search page. You can also add domain privacy to an existing domain from the account area. If you are transferring a domain, you must complete the transfer, and add domain privacy as a separate order.

Due to central registry restrictions, .in, .us, .eu, .de, .at, .pl, .be, .cn domains can not have privacy.

Why Private Domains?

When you register a domain name, ICANN requires that your email address, mailing address, and phone number are made publicly available. Anyone can see your personal information using a Whois lookup. Spammers and junk mailers often search through the Whois database to create mailing lists. Our private domain service replaces your contact information with ours.

How Does a Private Domain Work?

1. We replace your contact information with ours. Your name is not changed, to prevent any legal issues regarding ownership.
2. If someone sends an email regarding your domain, we first filter it for spam. Then we forward it to your account email address.
3. If someone mails a letter regarding your domain, we first check if it is junk mail. If not we scan it in and email it to you as an attachment.
4. If someone calls regarding your domain, we will take a message and email it to your account email address.
5. Domain privacy does not affect your ability to manage your domain in any way. You still have full control of your domain from the account area.
6. Once you have ordered domain privacy, you can turn it on or off from the account area.

Please note that if you choose to use our domain privacy service, only your name is sent to the central registry. The rest of your personal information (email address, mailing address, phone number, etc.) is replaced by our domain privacy service, and will not be sent to the central registry. This will also happen when we escrow your Whois data to the third party data escrow service as required by ICANN.
