Subject: Advanced Dynadot DNS settings Date Posted: Mar 4, 2010 11:08am PST

Here's what happened: I wanted to use my dynadot website as a custom domain for my Blogger. So I followed Dynadot's instructions for doing so, but then I could not access my files hosted at my website. So now I want to restore my website to just being a website again-- no Blogger. But I can't clear the settings or restore them to what it was.

Right now, I just want to be able to access my files via www.website.com/* (where * is a wildcard). Ideally, I would prefer to keep the Advanced Dynadot DNS Settings and host my blog at a subdomain like blog.website.com, separate from my hosted files at www.website.com. I'm lost. Help?

It took me a while, but I figured it out. I'll post the steps for others in a similar predicament: wanting to put their Blogger on a subdomain, like blog.website.com, and still keep their files hosted at www.website.com.

1. Go to the "Domains" tab on the Dynadot website, while logged in.
2. Near the bottom of the page is a table with your domain name. Click on the link under the column "Name Server."
3. Find the header titled "Dynadot Hosting" and check the Basic Hosting button. Then click the "Use Dynadot Hosting" button.
4. As always, you'll need to wait a while, maybe 10 minutes, until the server makes the DNS changes.
5. Now, on the same page as you were before, click the IP Lookup link at the top right of the page.
6. In the popup window, you should see your website's IP address. Copy it to your clipboard. Close the popup window.
7. Back to the main window for the Name Servers, find the header "Advanced Dynadot DNS."
8. For the Domain Record (required) change the record type to A and paste the IP address into the text field.
9. For a subdomain record, type "www" into the first box, change the record type to "A" and paste the IP address into the text field.
10. Finally, type a new subdomain like "blog" and change its record type to "CNAME" and its target host to ghs.google.com
11. Click the button "Use Dynadot DNS"

I hope this helps someone. Personally, I had to figure this out myself.
